Heading into Winter
Now the nights are drawing in, please remember to close your hens into their houses before it gets too dark. Predators like to hang around at dusk (although they can and will also be seen during the day too!), so the birds are usually pretty good at getting themselves in to bed before it it too dark, but it's still a very good idea to ensure they are securely shut in too. |

Have you seen our range of cleaning brushes in the shop? One that we love is this fabulous style of drinker cleaning brush! It has been an instant hit here at MWF! The ergonomic design means the brush head fits right into the groove of the drinker so you can give it a good scrub really quickly and easily. At £2.99 these are a must have! Model Hens!
In August 2018 we posted a slightly cryptic message on our social media channels to say we were out on an exciting adventure with two hens from our laying flock. At the time we weren't able to elaborate on the events further, but we are so excited to now be able to reveal that we were actually on set for a photo shoot with The Little White Company! Here are our two beauties in action, a Goldine and a Rhode Rock. They were the most fabulous models and didn't behave like divas at all!

Warm Wet Weather
During the warmer and wetter weather flies can be nuisance around the chicken run. We highly recommend the Red Top Fly Traps to stop them in their tracks. Just make up according to the instructions, hang up in the run in a sunny spot but out of the reach of your hens and it will catch any flies that are causing a problem, without causing a problem to other flying insects such as our vital pollinators. Red Top Fly Traps are excellent at getting rid of flies from a chicken run, but be sure you're buying the real thing as there are many fakes which do not work as effectively. |
Time for a Dust Bath!
Don't forget to provide a nice dry, sheltered space for your hens as they love to dust bathe! This is such an important way for them to keep their skin in tip-top condition, help stay mite and lice free, and keep themselves cool in the summer. We have some excellent shallow trugs available in the shop which make perfect dust baths, and also have matching fitted lids to stop the rain getting in, or other animals using it. |
